So now we know what Jordan Sammons does when she is well rested. Sammons decided now to play soccer for Hamline this fall. As a result, she was more than raring to go when the curtain came up on the Piper women's basketvball season last week.

All Sammons did was score 35 points (the most by any D-III player this young season), hit five three point-shots, grab eight rebounds and add three steals in Hamline's 81-72 loss to Northwestern at Hutton Arena. Accordingly, she has been honored as the MIAC Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week.

The Burnsville, MN native won the honor twice last season as the Pipers went on a late season rampage to earn a MIAC playoff spot.

She started off 2013-14 by sending folks to the archives to find out the last time somebody rattled off 35 points in a single game.

Due to graduation and injuries, Jordan was the only regular starter from last season in the lineup against the Eagles. Unfazed, Sammons started fast, scoring 22 in the first half alone. The five treys she hit for the night were three more than she put down in all of 2012-13. Her eight rebounds tied for game high as the Pipers clung to a lead until the very late going.

Oh yes. She also played a game high 34 minutes.

Sammons and the Pipers now plunge headfirst into the maze that is the MIAC schedule. The Pipers start a stretch fo five games in 11 days (four away from Hutton Arena) on Wednesday, December 4 at Gustavus.
