Box Score It wasn't the statistics the Hamline volleyball team was hoping for. But they could take some satisfaction from a tense 3-1 loss to Concordia Tuesday night in the conference opener for both teams.

When Hamline won 25-18 in Game 2, it marked the first game the Pipers had taken from the Cobbers in 10 years.  CC had won the first game 25-18 when the Pipers turned on the team picked for No. 2 in the conference and held them to an .029 hitting percentage for the game. Meanwhile, Stephanie Kaup (pictured in air) had five of her game (and season) high 17 kills as HU pulled away at the end.

Concordia came back for a 25-17 win in Game 3 and had considerable difficulty but did close out the Pipers, 25-22, in Game 4. Kaup finished with a sparkling .452 hitting percentage for the night with just three errors. She got help from Caitlyn Gottwald, who recorded 11 kills. Molly Hurrle had a solid double (44 assists, 10 digs). Lynsey Reimer led a 74 dig effort with a game high 19.

Hamline, now 7-6 overall, battled the Cobbers even in Kills (52 apiece) and held the edge in Assists (50-44) and Digs (74-62).

The Pipers return to MIAC play this Saturday against St. Olaf. Game time at Hutton Arena is 3:00 p.m.
