Box Score
Eden Behrens (7) has always been known as a heady soccer player. On a soggy Saturday at Paterson Field, she was also a heads-up player.
The sophomore headed in a Hannah Plagman corner kick for her second goal of the game to lift Hamline to a 2-1 win over St. Catherine.
The Pipers claimed their first MIAC win of the year after two losses and improved to 3-4-2 overall with the win.
Despite the mist and wind that buffeted Paterson, the Pipers controlled play most of the way. They outshot the Wildcats, 8-3 in the first half but ended up behind at the intermission when SCU's Nina Bukowski picked up a rebound and netted the game's first goal at 37:01. It was the first goal HU had allowed at home all season.
Hamline continued to press in the second half, scoring 5:04 into the session when Behrens took a pass from Malya Hirshkowitz and drilled a long shot through traffic into the far corner of the net.
Nearly 29 minutes later, Behrens struck again by redirecting Plagman's corner for her fourth goal of the season. The Pipers then turned defensive the rest of the way for the victory.
HU held a whopping 15-4 edge in total shots and a 11-2 margin in corner kicks. Erin Urbanowicz registered two saves in goal to earn her first victory of the 2013 campaign.
Hamline has a pair of MIAC tests next week -- Wednesday, October 2 at St. Olaf (4:30 p.m.) and next Saturday, October 5 against St. Thomas at Paterson (1:00 p.m.).
