Box Score The Hamline women's soccer team found an excellent way to warm up on a damp Wednesday afternoon at Paterson Field.
Scoring goals is an excellent tonic.
Aubrey Stenson (pictured, 13) andÂ
Aileen Scheibner had a goal and an assist each andÂ
Nicole Verdoorn added her first career goal -- all in the first 34:31 of play -- as Hamline claimed its first MIAC win with a 3-1 decision over St. Olaf.
Erin Urbanowicz recorded six saves as HU improved to 6-2-2 overall.Â
Stenson kicked off the first half outburst when she took a pass from Scheibner and drilled a 30-yarder home just 7:27 into the game. 20 minutes, Scheibner netted her third of the season when she chipped a shot over STO goalie Ruth Hesse to finish off a three-way play with Stenson andÂ
Corinne Henning. The Oles struck for their long goal at 28:41 but this was offset when Verdoorn joined the party after she corraled a corner kick fromÂ
Malya Hirshkowitz and unloaded a shot through traffic to make it 3-1.
That ended the scoring for the afternoon but not the action. Despite the wet conditions, each team stayed on offense. St. Olaf ended up outshooting the Pipers, 11-10 for the game. HU had the edge in shot on goal, 8-7. The win moved the Pipers (1-2-1 MIAC) into a tie for sixth place with Macalester and St. Olaf. Each team currently has four points.Â
Hamline now takes its act on the road for the next 24 days. They open a string of five straight games away from Paterson on Sunday, October 5 at St. Thomas. Game time is 3:00 p.m.Â
