Mora Stops 14 As Pipers Tie Auggies

10/15/2014 7:16:00 PM

Box Score Derrick Mora was at his leaping, acrobatic best Wednesday afternoon at Paterson Field.

Good thing, too.

Hamline's senior goalie recorded 14 saves -- the most by any MIAC goalie this season and the third most in Piper history -- in a hardfought 0-0 double OT tie with Augsburg. Mora was especially sharp early, making two saves off Augsburg's Ben Henry in the first minute of play. He went on to stop seven in the first half alone. He handled three in the second half, one in the first OT and three more in the second extra session. Mora's previous high was 12 saves in a 2013 game against Wartburg.

The Pipers mustered seven shots of their own. The closest they came to breaking the deadlock was in the second half when freshman James Reardon slammed a shot that beat Augsburg goalie Nick Lenertz cleanly but ricocheted off the goalpost. HU also had five corner kicks, three of which came in the first 45 minutes of play.

The deadlock improved Hamline's overall record to 5-7-2, 1-4-1 in the MIAC.

The Pipers stay home and face Carleton (6-5-1, 4-01-1 MIAC) Saturday at Paterson. Game time is 11:00 a.m.
