Box Score With two weeks to go in the MIAC season, the Hamline men's soccer team has moved themselves back into the tight race for playoff spots.
Derrick Mora recorded his second shutout of the week and
Tyler Tallaksen scored the lone goal of the game as Hamline upended Carleton, 1-0, Oct. 18 at Paterson Field. HU is now 6-7-2 overall. More importantly, they are 2-4-1 in MIAC play and just one win out of sixth place, currently co-held by Augsburg and St. Thomas. Both those teams have 10 points while the Pipers have seven.
Mora followed up his 14 save shutout of Augsburg on Wednesday by stopping nine more shots today as the Knights lost for just the second time in MIAC play. The senior netminder was particularly sharp in the second half,. handling all six tries sent his way. He now leads the MIAC with 65 saves and is second in save percentage at .823. He has not allowed a goal in his last 241:20 of action.
The Eagan, MN native has five shutouts this season -- two shy of th school record.
Tallaksen broke the scoreless draw 35:29 into the game, converting a
James Reardon feed for his first goal of the season.
Despite the low score, it was a wide open affair with each team moving the ball freely. Carleton outshot HU by 9-6 in the first half.
The Pipers now have a week off to rest up for the stretch run. They play at Bethel (3-5 MIAC) on Saturday, October 25 in a 11:00 a.m. affair. HU then travels to St. Mary's (1-6) on October 29 before finishing up at Paterson against Gustavus Adolphus (4-2-1) on November 1.
