11/15/2014 10:39:00 PM

Box Score Hamline's men's basketball team found a way to shake off the residue of a cold, wintry night. The Pipers shot a torrid 55 per cent from the field, using a 20-1 spurt in the second half to pull away late in a 79-59 season-opening win at Northwestern (Roseville). It was a balanced attack with four players in double digits and two more with eight points as HU kept the Eagles at bay most of the night.

It was a balanced attack for the Pipers with Austin Johnson, Blaine Storlie and Quinton Garvis each scoring 11 points and Travis Johnson and Bennett Cooper each with 10.  Dylan See-Rockers finished the game with 8 points.

The first half rocked back and forth with both team taking turns having the lead. Hamline scored the last four points of the half to go into the lockerroom with a 33-29 advantage.

The game remained tight with HU clinging to a 43-42 advantage with 11:11 remaining. Garvis then drove the paint for a basket that triggered the five minute outburst that ended with Hamline now leading 62-43. The Eagles never got closer than 15 points the rest of the game.

The Pipers return home to host UW-River Falls on Wednesday, November 19 at Hutton Arena. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
