Box Score Before his team started training camp, HU men's soccer coach Alex Morawiecki talked about his seniors were determined to leave the program in better shape than they found it. If the 2-0 win over Bethany Lutheran is any indication, they are on their way to do so.

Two of them played prominent roles in the lidlifter victory.

Gilbert Ghong scored in each half and Derrick Mora (pictured) stood tall in goal as the Pipers opened with a win in Storm Lake, Iowa.

The combination of preseason injuries and a gaggle of talented newcomers led to a starting lineup that had five first-year players in it. They handled themselves well and kept the Vikings at bay most of the game.

Ghong took care of the offense, scoring an unassisted goal 33:56 into the game. Two minutes into the second half, James Reardon (one of the first year players in the lineup) fed Ghong to give the Pipers a two-goal edge.

Mora took it from there, handling all three shots sent his way to earn the shutout. Hamline held a 15-4 edge in over all shots and an 8-3 margin in shots on goal. HU also held a 4-1 corner kick edge.

The Pipers take on host Buena Vista Sunday. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
