Box Score The game went as advertised. Hamline and St. Benedict's women's soccer teams punched and counter-punched most of Tuesday afternoon to no avail. It would take a break to get a goal. Unfortunately for the Pipers, it turned out to be a bad break as the Blazers converted a corner kick with 7:07 left in the second half to send HU down to its first defeat of the season, 1-0, at Paterson Field.

MIAC Women's Soccer Athlete Of The Week GK Erin Urbanowicz recorded six saves, four of them in the first half. Her counterpart, Heather Kaluzniak, stopped two shots in each 45-minute period. Mallory Wirth (6 - near ball) had two of Hamline's four shots on goal.

Although both teams had chances, neither team could stay in the other's end for very long. The Pipers held a huge edge in Corner Kicks (8-3) but the Blazers, the preseason favorite in the conference, kept them at bay all afternoon. 

Urbanowicz was doing the same at her end until Megan Lenz's header off a corner kick eluded her grasp. It was the first goal Hamline has allowed all season. St. Ben's (6-1-0, 1-0-0) has allowed just two goals . 

HU, which is rated 8th in the latest NSCAA North Region D-III poll, fell to 4-1-1, 0-1-1 in the MIAC. They will host Macalester Saturday at Paterson. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
