Women's Soccer Overwhelms Northwestern

Box Score Hamline took charge from the start and rolled to a solid 3-0 women's soccer victory over Northwestern (Roseville) Tuesday at Paterson Field. Anna Futterer and Mallory Wirth (6) scored 10 minutes apart in the first half and Kirsten Berry nailed a penlty kick in the second session as the Pipers improved to 5-1-2 on the season.

The Pipers, rated No. 8 in the latest NSCAA North Region poll, outshot the Eagles (1-5), 29-1, for the game. 16 of those reached NW goalie Miranda Carda. Futterer led the way with five shots on goal while Berry, Aubrey Stenson and Elena Jimenez had two each. Amy Ramras lowered her goals-against to 0.41 with her fourth shutout.

Futterer clipped the Eagles early, when she finished off a three-way passing play with Nicole Verdoorn and Alyssa Skinner  just 6:38 into the game. Wirth then redirected Berry's corner kick at 16:34 for her first goal of the season to make it 2-0.

Hamline kept up the offensive attack on Carda, forcing the foul that led to Berry's penalty kick goal at 67:17. It wwas the first PK of the season for the Pipers.

Head coach Ted Zingman rested a top scorer (Malya Hirskowitz) and a top defender (Mackenzie Zink), who have been battling injuries, Aileen Scheibner started but was pulled midway in the first half and didn't go back in the game.

HU, 0-1-1 in MIAC play, returns to conference wars Saturday at St. Catherine. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
