Box Score This time, Hamline's volleyball team won most of the long rallies. As was the case the night before against Northwestern, a 3-0 final score -- this time in Hamline's favor over Macalester -- hardly told the story. it was tight nearly all the way but the Pipers dug hard for points when they really needed them and came away with 25-21, 25-22, 28-26 wins to move back within a game of .500 at 9-10. HU also improved to 2-4 in the MIAC with a balanced offensive attack.Â
Julia Zolnosky was the lone Piper in double digits for kills with 10. ButÂ
Marisa Franco (11) andÂ
Jena Meyer were close behind with nine each. Franco, who led Hamline with a .318 hitting percentage, also had 14 digs, 11 of which came in that initial set.Â
Amelia Jensen led the helpers with 16 assists andÂ
Vassi Prattas added 13.Â
Micki Green topped Franco's dig total with 15.
The Pipers came out steaming, jumping to a 17-9 in the first set. But the Scots showed how they had attained 13 wins by scratching back within two points. Franco, who had 11 digs in the first set, the finished matters off with a kill. In the middle set, HU again broke fast and led by six points (15-9) at one point. Again, Macalester worked their way back into the fray to get within a pair before succumbing on a Jensen service ace.Â
Hamline had to come from behind in the third set. They trailed 21-19 and later by 24-23. The Pipers broke a 26-all with a Jensen kill and then gained the next point as well to earn the sweep. Hamline is now a game behind sixth place Augsburg. The Pipers return to action Wednesday, October 14 when they take on second place St. Benedict at Hutton. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
