Box Score It figured to be the type of men's soccer game that would be decided by whichever team got the break. Unfortunately for the Hamline Pipers, it proved to be a bad break.
Carleton scored on a penalty kick midway through the second half and that was enough to hold off the Pipers for a taut 1-0 decision at Paterson Field. Hamline's three-game winning streak came to an end as the team dropped to 5-6-2 overall.
After a tight first half in which both teams managed just two shots apiece, play opened up a bit in the second stanza. Danny Leal hit the penalty kick marker that proved to be the difference int he game.. HU threw six shots (five of which went on goal) but CU goalie Brandon Hilliard refused to budge. For his part,
Dean Isaacson held firm in the HU goal, recording five saves.
Gardea Simoke was the top HU shooter with three shots, two of which were on goal.
Hamline returns to action Saturday at Augsburg. Game time is 7:00 p.m. Both teams are tied for sixth place in the MIAC -- the last playoff position -- with 3-2-1 marks.
