Box Score A hot foot isn't always a good thing ... unless you are on the soccer field.
Abbai Habte has the hot foot these days for the Hamline men's team. The St. Paul, Minn. senior had all three goals Monday as the Pipers defeated Northwestern, 3-0, to move within a game of .500 at 4-5-2. Habte, who is now tied for second in the MIAC with six goals, recorded the eighth hat trick in school history ... and the first since
Jesse Hawker had one in a win over Finlandia in 2011.
Habte scored the winning goal on a penalty kick in last Saturday's 2-1 win over St. Thomas.
He got HU on the board with an unassisted goal 16:26 into the game. Eight minutes later, he finished off a three way play with
Trevoe Lewellen and
Stefan Kinsinger. In the second half, he converted his second PK in three days to wrap up the scoring and clinch the win.
Dean Isaacson logged the first 86 minutes and
Peter Griggs saw his first action to finish up the shutout. Isaacson recorded three saves and lowered his goals-against to 1.58 on the season.
Hamline outshot the Eagles, 16-7, for the game.
The Pipers will go for three wins in a row Saturday when they travel to St. Mary's for a key conference game. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
