Box Score At the end of the day, the Hamline men's soccer team had two things they didn't have when the day started at Gustavus Saturday.
1) They knew where their resting spot in the MIAC playoff picture was
2) They had a 10-goal scorer.
The former was decided in a 2-1 loss Saturday at Gustavus. The Pipers, 5-4-1 in the MIAC (7-8-2 overall) finish in fifth place and will advance to the postseason for the first time in eight years. They will play at fourth place St. Olaf Tuesday at 2:00 p.m.
The latter distinction belonged to senior forwardÂ
Abbai Habte. He recorded the lone HU goal to become just the sixth Piper ever -- and the first in nearly a decade -- to get to that plateau. The last time it happened was 2008 whenÂ
Drew Lukas netted a dozen markers.Â
Habte, who is second in the league in goals and points (24), took a feed fromÂ
Stefan Kinsinger and nailed a shot at 54:49 to tie the score in St. Peter. The 24 points is foruth all-time in school history for a single season.
The Gusties scored with 12 minutes left to get the win.Â
Dean Isaacson had four saves in goal for Hamline.
The Pipers have a last warmup before heading into the postseason. They will host Finlandia in a non-conference match on Monday, November 2 at Paterson Field. Game time is 3:00 p.m.
