Box Score Travis VanElsberg had a night to remember for the Hamline men's basketball team. The sophomore came off the bench to score a career high 11 points as the Pipers held strong for a long time before losing to highly ranked Whitworth, 69-56, in Colorado Springs Friday night.
HU, now 1-2 on the season, held tough against the undefeated Pirates for the first half, trailing just 35-31 at intermission. In the second half, HU worked its way to within two at 51-49 before the Pirates, who are rated No. 3 in the country in the D3hoops.com poll, scored six points in a row to take command.Â

Hamline will face Howard Payne, a school located in Brownwood, Texas, Saturday in Colorado Springs at 6:00 p.m. (CT). The Yellow Jackets, who were picked to finish fourth in the American Southwest Conference lost to Colorado College, 70-64, Friday to fall to 0-4 on the season.
