St. John's, however, had five players in double figures, shot 58 per cent for the night and held a 36-27 rebounding edge to claim the decision.Â
It was a moral victory of sorts for the Pipers to go into the locker room at halftime down just 42-35. SJU shot 64 per cent from the field. Garvis offset much of that with 10 points to keep the Pipers afloat. SJU started fast in the second half, scoring the first six points for a 13-point edge at 48-35. Dylan See-Rockers layup to close the gap to 51-49 with 15:46 to play. SJU responded with a 9-0 outburst and that was that.Â
Nick Powell came off the bench for a team high six rebounds and tied Smith for the assist lead with four.Â
