Box Score The youthful Hamline men's soccer team hung with powerful St. Scholastica for most of the first half of their season opener at Paterson Field. But the Saints, who went 20-3 last season, had too much depth and defeated the Pipers, 4-1, Tuesday afternoon.
Ben Pietsch (2) scored the lone HU goal, heading in a feed from
Nathaniel Jackson in the 82nd minute of play.
With 17 first year players, the Pipers kept the Saints off the scoreboard for the first 25 minutes of play. CSS scored twice late in the half and two more two minutes apart in the second.
Dean Isaacson had four saves in goal in his college debut.
James Nash and
Stefan Kinsinger led the Pipers' nine shot attack with two each.
Hamline hosts Grinnell Friday at Paterson. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
