A Happy Day of Firsts for Men's Soccer

9/16/2015 7:44:00 PM

Box Score It was quite a day of firsts for the Hamline men's soccer team.

Hamline's solid 3-0 over Concordia in the MIAC opener for both teams Wednesday at Paterson Field earned these plaudits:
  • It marked the first time since 2009 that Hamline had opened the MiAC season with a victory.
  • It was the first time since 2009 that the Pipers had scored three goals in a conference game.
  • It was the first Piper victory over Concordia in a men's soccer game since 2007.

HU took charge of this game early to win their second game in a row and improve overall to 2-3-1. Trevor Tallaksen (6) opened the scoring when he took James Reardon's pass and headed the ball into the net at 29:59. Nine minutes later, it was Trevor Lewellen's alert play that pushed the score to 2-0. Abbai Habte rocketed a shot off the goalpost. Lewellen beat the CC defender to the loose ball and knocked it in the net for his first collegiate goal.

Eight minutes into the second half, Stefan Kinsinger converted Nathaniel Jacobson's feed and buried it for his second goal of the season that finished off the scoring. Dean Isaacson recorded one save to earn his second straight shutout. The freshman goalie continued to lower his GAA and is now at 1.61 for the season. He extended his scoreless string to 225:19. After surrendering seven goals in his first games, Isaacson has give up just three in his last four games.

HU now heads on the road for the first time this season. They will play at UW-Superior Sunday in a non-conference affair. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
