Williams' Winner Lifts Pipers Past Oles

9/30/2015 5:58:00 PM

Box Score Alicia Williams has a nose for the net. Turns out she has a good head for it, too. Williams' second half header proved to be the only netter of the game as Hamline's women's soccer team nudged their way into the middle of the MIAC race with a 1-0 win at St. Olaf Wednesday afternoon.

Anna Briscoe earned the shutout as HU improved to 1-2-1 in the MIAC, 3-5-1 overall. The Pipers, who are currently just two points out a playoff spot, are undefeated in their last three games (2-0-1).

It was the second year the Pipers had beaten the Oles. This one was a tight affair all the way. It was scoreless until the 69th minute. It started with Malya Hirshkowitz's corner kick. Arendje Louter took the feed and sent it towards Williams, who headed it into the net for her second goal of the season.

The HU defense took it from there, holding the Oles at bay the rest of the way. The overall shots were even at six with HU holding a 4-1 edge in shots on goal. Briscoe, who ranks second in the MIAC with a .826 save percentage, earned her second shutout of the season.

The Pipers will look to get the .500 mark in MIAC play when they host St. Thomas (4-4, 2-1 MIAC) Saturday at Paterson Field. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
