Knutson, Tarpeh Have Career Highs For Men's BB

1/9/2016 3:14:00 PM

Box Score Connor Knutson is quickly growing accustomed to the pace of MIAC men's basketball. The freshman guard made the most of his first career start with 20 points in Hamline's 85-70 loss to Gustavus Adolphus Saturday at Hutton Arena. Herbert Tarpeh also had a career high with 16 points as the Pipers fell to 3-8 overall, 1-5 in the MIAC.

The Pipers shot a season high 56 per cent from the floor (25-45). The Gusties, however, topped that slightly at 57 per cent (31-54) and held a 31-17 rebounding edge.

Bouyed by a Code Red crowd, the Pipers broke fast, leading 8-2 after two and half a minutes of play. Later, GAC used a 9-2 run to grab a 16-12 lead and stretched it to 45-34 by halftime. They continued to frustrate HU from long distance, hitting six three-pointers in the second half. Knutson (pictured) kept the Pipers' hopes alive with his third straight double digit scoring effort. The Forest Lake, Minn. native, who has scored 52 points in his last three games was six for eight from the field and seven for nine from the free throw line.

Tarpeh has also been excellent offensively as of late. The team's lone senior hit on seven of eight field goal tries for his second double digit point total in his last three games.

Hamline gets back in gear Monday, January 11 with a game at Concordia (7:00 p.m.). HU hosts Carleton at Hutton on Wednesday, January 13 at 7:00 p.m. and finishes off this busy stretch next Saturday, January 16 at Bethel (1:00 p.m.)
