Box Score It was a night of peaks and valleys for the Hamline volleyball team Wednesday night. The Pipers made several runs at first place Augsburg before an excellent crowd on a Blackout night at Hutton Arena. The first place Auggies, however, came up with runs of their own and had enough to defeat the Pipers, 3-0.
Julia Zolnosky had eight kills and
Jena Meyer added five for Hamline, which now stands 9-9 overall, 3-5 in the MIAC.
Morgen Coleman (pictured) contributed 15 assists, a season high four service aces and eight digs.
Amelia Jensen led the back wall with 11 digs and Zolnosky added nine.
The Pipers got off to a slow start in the first set, trailing 18-5 at one point. HU put a late run together with
Cassie Doerr on service for five straight points to get within six at 21-15. The Auggies, who are undefeated in MIAC play, pulled away for a 15-17 final. In the second set, the Pipers climbed out of a 5-0 hole to get back to a two point deficit at 10-8. The visitors scored six of the set's final seven points for a 25-15 verdict.
The third set started the same wya with Hamline down 3-0, The Pipers then rose to life with a 9-2 run for a four point lead that forced an Auugie timeout. Augsburg recovered and moved ahead 18-15 only to see the Pipers claw back to take a 24-22 edge. Augsburg, however, rallied for the last four points to close out the match.
Hamline now heads on the road for the final time in the 2016 regular season on Saturday, October 22 at St. Olaf. Game time is 3:00 p.m. HU finishes the season with three home matches next week.
