Box Score One of the most successful seasons in Hamline men's soccer history came to a close with a 2-1 OT loss to Gustavus Adolphus Saturday at Paterson Field.
Ben Pietsch had the HU goal in the game's 77th minute. Pietsch, who finished an excellent freshman season with five goals, finished off a three-way play with
Jake Niemann (pictured), playing his last game for HU, and
Junior Salguero-Solis. This offset a first half GAC goal and sent the game into overtime.
The Gustied then won it on a redirected free kick in the final minute of the first overtime.
Dean Isaacson had four saves in goal for Hamline.
Despite the unhappy finish, it was a terrific year for HU. Their 9-6-2 overall mark meant that the Pipers were plus .500 for the first time since 2007. Niemann is the lone senior on the team, leaving a bright future for coach
Alex Morawiecki's team in 2017.
