Box Score The final act was a worthy farewell. Hamline's volleyball team ended the 2016 season on a happy note with a solid 3-0 win over St. Catherine at Hutton Arena Saturday. The Pipers, who won by scores of 25-16, 25-23, and 25-16. ended up with an overall winning record (12-10) for the third time in
Becky Egan's four years as head coach. HU finished in a four way tie for sixth place at 5-6 in MIAC play. However, the Pipers lose out on tiebreakers and will not advance to the postseason.
Julia Zolnosky finished with a flourish, recording 13 kills. The senior ended the year with a team high 229 kills and ranks fifth in the MIAC at 3.05 per set.
Cass Bittle was next in line with eight kills.
Morgen Coleman capped a brilliant freshman season with 34 assists and 10 digs -- her 13th double-double of the season. The North Branch, Minn. native ranks fourth in the conference at 8.43 assists per set. Her total of 632 for the season is sixth best in the circuit.
Marisa Franco led the back wall against the Wildcats with 17 digs while
Amelia Jensen added 14. Jensen led the Pipers in this category with 375. She also topped in service aces with 30.
It was the final match for Jensen, Zolnosky,
Jena Meyer and
Beth Goodman. The four were feted in a special pre-game ceremony.
