Box Score Malya Hirshkowitz is streaking again. And so is the Hamline women's soccer team. The senior forward scored a goal in each of the first three games of the season. Not totally coincidentally, Hamline won those games.
Now she is hot again. Hirshkowitz boomed a long shot into the net 36:55 into the game -- and that proved to be the difference in a 1-0 win over St. Mary's Saturday at Paterson Field. It was the second game in a row Hirshkowitz had scored -- and the Pipers' second straight win as the team improved to 7-4-1 on the season.
Hirshkowitz took four shots total -- three of which were on net -- as HU outshot the Cardinals, 16-10 overall. GK
Amy Ramras had five saves to add to her school records for most career wins and shutouts.
The Pipers carried the play much of the first half, outshooting SMU by a 9-2 margin. HU also held a 4-1 edge in corner kicks. The Cardinals picked up the pace in the second half, holding a slight 8-7 edge in shot attempts and evening the corner kicks at three. But the Pipers held firm and gained the win to improve to 2-3-1 in MIAC play.
Hamline returns to action Tuesday, October 11 at Carleton. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
