Box Score 2 Julia Zolnosky slammed out 41 kills and
Morgen Coleman added 72 assists as the HU volleyball team split a pair of matches in Duluth Saturday. Zolnosky, a senior, had a season high 24 in the Pipers' 3-1 win over Martin Luther. She came back with 17 in a closer-than-it-looked 3-0 loss to host St. Scholastica later in the day.
HU, now 8-8 on the season, got off to a rough start with a tight 25-23 loss to MLC in the opening set . The Pipers roared back to record a .406 hitting percentage in a solid 25-16 in the second set. Hamline kept up the pressure for 25-18 and 25-17 wins in the next two sets to claim the match.Â
In addition to Zolnosky,
Beth Goodman recorded a dozen kills. Coleman continued her impressive rookie year with a double-double on 40 assists and 18 digs. Three other Pipers --
Amelia Jensen (15),
Megan Anderson (13) and
Marisa Franco (12) -- Â also had double digit dig efforts.Â
There were 13 tie scores and three lead changes before the Saints ran off a few points at the end to win the first set of their match, 25-22. The next two sets were equally tight with CSS gaining 25-22 and 25-23 decisions. Zolnosky led the offense with 17 kills and Goodman added 10.Coleman had another double-double with 32 assists and 12 digs. Jensen also had 12 digs.Â
Hamline now returns to MIAC play Wednesday, October 12 at St. Benedict. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
