Box Score It's hard to imagine a better start to a season. The Hamline women's soccer team scored early and often in a 5-1 win over Wis-River Falls Saturday at Paterson Field.
Kaley Roberts had a pair of goals and assisted on two others as HU improved to 4-0 on the season. The Pipers have outscored their opponents by an impressive 18-2 margin.
Arendje Louter,
Teylen Sheesley and
Mallory Wirth scored in the first 36:45 of play as HU grabbed control of the game from the start. Roberts, a freshman who now leads the teams with 10 points, scored a pair of tallies 14 minutes apart in the second half to put the game out of reach.
Amy Ramras started in goal and earned the win. Freshman
Tess Salen saw her first college action by playing the final 8:31 of the game. Ramras, who extended her scoreless streak in goal to 298:39, recorded six saves to earn her 15
th career win, one shy of the school record held by her goalie coach,
Molly Jacobs.
Louter got things rolling when she finished off a three-way scoring play at 16:25, Seven minutes, Sheesley picked up the rebound of a Roberts show and made it 2-0. Wirth then converted
Alicia Williams' corner kick and HU went to the intermission with a 3-0 lead.
Roberts took things into her own feet in the second stanza. The Washington state native took a pass from Sheesley and broke in free at 49:01. Later, she redirected a
Siri Parker pass for the Pipers' final goal. The Falcons responded with their lone goal in the final minute of play.
HU, which is 4-0 for the third time in five years, now starts MIAC play on Wednesday, September 14 at Concordia. The Pipers return home on Saturday, September 17 against St. Catherine at Paterson Field. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
