Box Score It was a conference Opening Day to remember and cherish for the Hamline women's soccer team.
Kaley Roberts scored twice and
Arendje Louter once as the Pipers won a school record fifth consecutive game with a 3-0 decision over Concordia in Moorhead Wednesday afternoon. The victory also was the first ever by a HU women's soccer contingent in 26 tries against the Cobbers.
Roberts, who had two goals and two assists in the Pipers' 5-1 win over Wis-River Falls last Saturday, leads the Pipers and stands second in the MIAC for goals (5) and points (14) lead with her big day. She is also tied for the league lead in assists with four. The freshman converted a pass from
Malya Hirshkowitz for her fourth goal of the season 16:02 into the game. That was the lone tally of the first half. 28 seconds into the second stanza, Hirshkowitz found Louter for her fourth goal of the year and it was 2-0.. Roberts then wrapped up the scoring when
Jasmine Lee found the Washington state native who took care of the rest of business at 79:01.
A stifling defense and GK
Amy Ramras handled the rest of the matter. The senior netminder was tested early, finishing with eight saves to earn her 16th career win, tying her with goalie coach
Molly Jacobs for most ever in school history. It was also her 14th career blanking -- a school record on its own.
In 2011, the Pipers opened the season with four straight wins and then tied Concordia, 0-0 in double OT. (Ironically, that is the only tie ever between the two schools.) They followed that with two more wins for a 6-0-1 start. The seven game unbeaten string is a school record. In 2012, they won their first four games before losing at Concordia. In 2014, they also started 4-0 and tied Central (IA), losing their next game to St. Benedict.
Now they have a five-game winning streak and a first-ever triumph over Concordia in a series that dates back to 1991.
The Pipers return to Paterson Field Saturday, September 17 to face St. Catherine. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
