Men's Soccer Loses To St. Olaf in OT

9/27/2016 6:36:00 PM

Box Score The Hamline men's soccer team had the edge in shots but St. Olaf came up with the only one that found the back of the net and dealt the Pipers a 1-0 overtime loss Tuesday at rainy Paterson Field.

Ben Pietsch had three of the Pipers'  nine total shots -- two of which landed on net. Jake Niemann added two -- one of which was stopped by STO goalie Ben Braman. Adam King and Ben Sorenson had the other shots on goal for HU.

Hamline, now 7-3-0 overall (1-2-0 MIAC), had the better of the play in the first half, holding the Oles to just one total shot while unleashing four of its own. In the second half, the Oles picked up the pace, pressuring HU goalie Dean Isaacson to make three saves. The Pipers had late chances but neither team could score, forcing the season's first extra time game. The Oles' Aaron Miller ended it at 3:51 of the first OT.

HU now travels to St. Thomas Saturday. It's the second game of a women's-men's doubleheader and is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
