Box Score With a MIAC playoff spot on the line, the Hamline men's soccer team erupted for two goals in a span of 5:29 to defeat St. Mary's, 2-0, Saturday at Paterson Field. The win lifted the Pipers into third place in the MIAC with a 5-2-1 record and guaranteed them a place at the postseason table. The Pipers also reached double digit wins for just the third time in school history and the first time since 2006-07 when they won a school record 12 games. It is the second time in three years and the fourth time in school history that a Hamline men's soccer team has advanced to the MIAC postseason tournament.
Oscar Campbell, a senior, broke the scoreless tie with an unassisted goal at 59:50.
Stefan Kinsinger then clinched matters by taking a
James Reardon pass and unloading his sixth goal of the season at 65:19. GK
Malachy Zamacona and the HU defense took it from there. Zamacona had four saves for his second shutout of the week. The sophomore lowered his goals-against average to 0.80. The blanking also stretched the team's current unbeaten streak to five games (4-0-1). HU has been one of the hottest D-III teams around the last month with a 7-1-1 record in its last nine games.
Hamline has two MIAC games remaining. HU travels to Collegeville on Friday, October 20 to tangle with St. John's (5-6-2 overall, 2-3-2 MIAC) in a 3:30 p.m. game. The regular season finale is against Gustavus Adolphus at Paterson Field on Tuesday, October 24, also at 3:30 p.m.
The first round of the conference playoffs are slated for Tuesday, October 31.
