M Soccer Drops Season Finale in OT

10/24/2017 6:18:00 PM

Box Score It's on to the postseason for the Hamline men's soccer team. The Pipers lost their regular season finale, 1-0, in overtime to Gustavus Adolphus at Paterson Field Tuesday. Hamline had the edge in shots on goal, 6-5, and had the closest thing to a goal when Adam King rang a shot off the crossbar in the waning minutes of regulation time. But the Gusties headed a shot in the net in the final minute of the first overtime session to earn the win.

King and Ben Sorenson, who nearly connected on a header in the second half, had two shots on goal apiece.

Malachy Zamacona saw his streak of scoreless play end at 416:23 and took the loss in goal.

HU finishes the 2017 regular season with a 11-5-1 overall record and a 6-3-1 standard in the MIAC. That currently places them in third place, one point ahead of the Gusties, who host second place Macalester Saturday.

Despite the loss, HU is guaranteed a first round MIAC home playoff game. The game will be Tuesday, October 31 at Paterson Field. Game time will be 2:00 p.m. with the opponent to be determined after Saturday's MIAC games.

Unlike the regular season, there will be a $7 charge for adults and a $3 charge for students for the game. MIAC passes will be the only passes honored at the gate.
