Hamline's men's basketball team improved to 2-0 on the season by pulling away in the final 10 minutes for a 79-60 victory at North Central Tuesday.Â
Dylan See-Rockers was the top gunner with 20 points and kicked in seven rebounds.
Zach Smith added 16 points with 10 assists while
Isaac Brooks also doubled up with 10 points and 10 rebounds. And let's not forget Kalu Abosi's help. The senior scored 15 points.Â
The Pipers shot 54.5 percent from the field but the Rams didn't go away easily. NCU led by as many as four early but Hamline came back for a 33-28 edge at intermission. In the second half, HU quickly pushed the margin to eight only to see the Rams get within one at 49-48 with 10:53 to play. In the span of 90 seconds, Smith came back with a pair of jumpers and Brooks scored in the paint to make it 55-48. NCU hit a free throw and HU responded with six more unanswered points for a 12-point lead and the issue was no longer in doubt.Â
The Pipers have one more test before opening MIAC play November 29 at Carleton. It figures to be a tough one. They travel to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls on Saturday, November 25. The Falcons were ranked #10 in the d3hoops.com pre-season rankings, won 25 games last year, and are 3-1 this year after a win over Wis-Superior on Tuesday.Â
