Box Score Isaac Brooks scored 16 points and
Nick Powell added 13 off the bench but the HU men's basketball team took their first loss of the season, 68-60, at Wis-River Falls Saturday. The Pipers rallied from an 11-point deficit but couldn't catch the Falcons, who won 25 games last year and stand 4-1 this season.
HU is now 2-1 heading into the MIAC opener Wednesday at Carleton.
Brooks, a junior, was 7-for-11 from the floor with a pair of three-pointers. He is the only HU player to score in double figures in all three games played this season. The Lakeville, Minn. native is tied with
Zach Smith for the team lead at 13.0 points per game. Powell, a senior, was 5-for-9 from the field and added a pair of steals. The 13 points is a career high for Harmony, Minn. native.
Ethan Scheuring contributed a team high six rebounds.
The Falcons used a 10-2 run early to grab a 13-6 lead 4 1/2 minutes into the game. The lead ballooned to 36-25 at halftime. UWRF expanded it to 25 in the second half only to see the Pipers roar back with a 13-0 run that made it 57-45 with 8:25 to play. The Pipers kept plugging, chopping the margin to six on a Powell three-pointer with 1:55 left. The Falcons made their free throws in the final minute to claim the verdict.
In addition to the game in Northfield next Wednesday, HU hosts St. Thomas at home on December 2.
