Box Score There were 14 ties and four lead changes. In the end, Gustavus Adolphus showed why they are rated No. 14 in the country in volleyball, defeating the Pipers, 3-0, in a lively affair at Hutton Arena Wednesday in the conference opener for both teams. The Pipers put up stiff opposition out of the chute, rallying from an early 4-0 deficit in the first set to take several leads before giving way to a late surge and a 25-16 decision in the opening set. The Gusties grabbed the lead early and never looked back for a 25-9 triumph in the middle set. Hamline, however, turned up the heat and grabbed several leads in the third set before GAC pushed away to a 25-19 decision.
Stephanie Maresh was the top HU attacker with five kills.
Morgen Coleman had a nice double-double, leading the Pipers in assists with 14 and digs with 13. The sophomore added to her MIAC leading service ace total with three. Her overall total of 19 has her tied with two other players for the league lead in that category.

Hamline is now 3-8 overall. They head to Platteville, Wis. for a trio of challenges. They face the host Pioneers on Friday, September 15 at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, September 16, HU tangles with Augustana (Ill.) at 10:30 a.m. and Cardinal Stritch at 12:30 p.m. The Pipers return to MIAC play against St. Olaf on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at Hutton Arena. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
