Arendje Louter had three chances apiece at Carleton goalie Anna Roethler. But it was Nora Mertz, who leads the MIAC with eight goals, scoring with 5:06 to play in the second half for the game's only marker.
Despite the score, it was a wide-open affair from the start. The Knights (5-1 overall, 1-1 MIAC) outshot Hamline, 8-6, in the first half but HU goalie
Kat Armstrong was solid.
The Pipers picked up the pace in the second half, finishing with an 8-2 edge in shots on goal. After the Mertz goal, HU increased the pressure till the end of the game but ended up being blanked for the first time this season. Armstrong finished with eight saves. She leads the MIAC in that category with 31.
Hamline is 3-2-1 overall and 1-1-0 in MIAC play. They return to action Wednesday, September 20 at St. Thomas (5-0-1, 2-0-0 MIAC) in a 4:00 p.m. game. The Pipers will be back at Paterson Field September 23 against Concordia.
