Box Score As the Hamline volleyball season hits the midway point, new faces are beginning to emerge as forces to be reckoned with.
On Wednesday, it was
Jaelin Jones whom stepped to the forefront with a career high dozen kills and a .500 attack percentage. Jones and the Pipers gave visiting St. Olaf a battle in all three sets but came up just short, falling by 25-22, 25-21, 25-21 scores at Hutton Arena.
Cass Bittle added 10 kills and
Morgen Coleman had another excellent night, delivering a season high 30 assists, eight digs and a pair of service aces for Hamline.
The Pipers had the lead in all three sets. In the first, the Pipers rallied from a 12-6 deficit to edge ahead by 18-17. HU was trailing 21-20 when the Oles picked up four of the set's final five points.
HU led 2-0 early in the second set but fell behind 10-6. A pair of Jones kills sparked a 7-1 run that gave HU a lead at 13-11. But the Oles caught fire at the end to take the decision.
Urged on by the home crowd, Hamline worked its way to a 17-13 lead in the third set. The Oles tied matters at 19 and then won six of the match's final eight points.
Hamline is 3-12 overall, 0-2 in the MIAC. They play at St. Benedict (5-6, 1-1 MIAC) Friday. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
