Box Score Megan Anderson wasn't hard to spot Wednesday night for the Hamline volleyball team in their match against Bethel. It wasn't just her bright red No. 10 jersey. It was the fact that everywhere the ball went, she was there to follow.
The sophomore had a game high 24 digs, more than one third of her team's total of 63 in a 3-0 loss to the powerful Royals at Hutton Arena. It was a match that featured several long rallies, including the Pipers making a late run in the third set.Â
Morgen Coleman led the way up front with nine kills with
Danica Hanson and
Jaelin Jones adding six each.
Megan Rubbelke had a dozen assists with Coleman adding nine.Â
But it was Anderson who was a whirling dervish all night. In addition to her digs, the sophomore had six assists and a pair of service aces to frustrate the Royals and prolong several points. Her 212 overall digs is tops on the HU squad.Â
In the first set, Hamline, egged on by an excellent Code Red crowd, rallied from an 18-9 to get within 22-19 before falling by a 25-20 count. Anderson set the tone for eight digs in the set. BU grabbed a lead early and held it all the way for a 25-14 in the middle set.Â
They started out that way in the third set, working to an 18-7 edge when the Pipers roared to life and chopped the lead to six before giving way, 25-18.Â
Hamline is now 3-14 overall, 0-4 in the MIAC. HU plays at Augsburg Saturday. Game time at Si Melby Hall is 5:00 p.m.
