Box Score There is 11 inches of height between them. But Adam King and Malachy Zamacona (pictured) stood together as key figures as the Hamline men's soccer team ended a long drought against St. Olaf with a 2-1 win Saturday afternoon at Paterson Field. It is the first HU men's soccer triumph over the Oles since 1982 -- and it could not have come at a better time for the Pipers.

The win jumped the Pipers (7-4 overall, 3-2 MIAC)  into a second place tie with Macalester and Gustavus Adolphus in the conference standings. All three teams have nine points.

King made his presence felt during a five minute segment late in the first half. The Oles had taken a 1-0 lead on a goal by Kyle Leemon 15:58 into the game. It was still 1-0 when King slipped the ball to Trevor Lewellen, who drilled home his third goal of the season at 33:24 to tie the score. King then took matters onto his feet at 38:19, sprinting down the left side and picking a corner for his fifth goal of the year. The Californian is tied for the league lead in assists with seven. He is second in overall points (17) and tied for fourth in goals.

That was all the scoring but the Oles weren't done trying. They took six second half shots and had a 4-0 edge in corner kicks. Zamacona, a 6-4 sophomore, made three saves to gain the win. The Oles had a 9-8 edge in total shots with King, a sophomore, leading the Piper attack with three.

The Pipers play a non-conference game at Viterbo on Wednesday, October 4. They return to conference play at Augsburg on Saturday, October 7. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
