1/17/2018 9:16:00 PM

Box Score He is already 6-5 and, as such, has impressive stature on a basketball court. Hamline junior men's hoopster Isaac Brooks, however, is beginning to get noticed for more than just his size. Brooks tossed in a game (and season) high 23 points Wednesday night for the Pipers in a 60-57 loss to St. Olaf in Northfield. Zach Smith added 13 but HU dropped below .500 at 7-8 overall on the season. Midway through the league schedule, the Pipers are 3-7 in conference games.

Brooks hit 10 of 15 field goal tries for HU, which grabbed an early lead and kept it throughout the first half, going to the locker room with a 29-28 advantage. The Oles, however, started the second session with a 6-2 win to regain the lead. Undaunted, Hamline came back to tie the game on five occasions, the last of which came on Brooks jumper to make the score 52-52 with 3:05 to play. St. Olaf scored the next six points but Brooks hit a layup and Smith drilled a three-pointer and it was 58-57 with eight seconds remaining. Hamline was forced to foul and St. Olaf hit both shots to close the scoring.

Smith's 13 points gave him 1,243 for his career, allowing to pass his head coach, Jim Hayes, for 13th place on the school's all-time scoring list. The senior also had a game high five assists. Dylan See-Rockers was the top HU rebounder with five.

Hamline hosts St. Mary's (1-14, 0-10 MIAC) Saturday, January 20 at Hutton Arena. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
