Saturday afternoon was a historic one for the men's basketball team as they shattered the school record for most points scored in a game, defeating Macalester 118-96. The previous scoring record also came against their Snelling Ave. neighbors in 2011 when the Pipers recorded 108 points.
 
The Pipers, now 6-6 on the year and 2-5 in the MIAC, put together an impressive offensive showing, as Hamline shot 55.4% from the field and 48.0% from behind the arc and had twelve different players score, with four in double figures. The offense was also an unselfish one, as the Pipers registered their season-high in assists, with 28.
 
Senior guard Zach Smith led the way, scoring a career-high 34 points, without missing a single shot (11-11 from the floor, 4-4 from three, and 8-8 from the line). Smith had help from teammates Isaac Brooks, Nick Powell, and Dylan See-Rockers, who all ended in double digits. Brooks compiled his third double-double of the season, scoring a season-high 22 points and collecting ten rebounds. Powell also recorded a double-double, his first of the season, as he secured a season-high 11 rebounds and put up 13 points. See-Rockers, after scoring a season-high 21 points against Augsburg in his last game, put together another solid performance, scoring 17 points, while shooting 54.5% from the floor and 50.0% from three.
 
The first part of the game went back-and-forth, but as the half went on, the Pipers started to build up their lead, going up by ten with 10:44 left in the half. From there, Hamline never looked back, as they led by double figures for the rest of the contest. Two free throws from Powell at the end of the first half put the Pipers up 16 going into the halftime break. In the second half the Pipers increased their lead to 20 in the first five minutes of play and cruised the rest of the way to lead by 19 as time expired.
 
The Pipers will continue their three-game homestand on Monday, January 8 when they take on Bethel at 7:00 p.m.
