Megan Rubbelke had a season high 47 assists to go well over 1,000 for her college career for the Piper volleyball team who gave St. Mary's a serious run for the money before dropping a 3-2 decision in Winona Friday. Rubbelke now 1,032 for her two years at Hamline. 643 of those have come this year. Her average of 8.93 assists per set ranks seventh in the conference.
The North St. Paul, Minn. sophomore also had a dozen digs for the Pipers (her sixth double-double of the year), who fell to 11-11 overall (1-7 MIAC) for the season.
Madison Hurrle led a 61-kill attack with 17 with
Gabby Robinson and
Sydney Larson helping considerably with 14 kills each.
Erin Tadych had a big night on the back wall with a career high 19 digs.
Hamline started slow with a 25-15 loss in the first set but quickly evened matters with a .400 kill percentage a key factor in a 25-19 win in the second set. The Cardinals gained an edge via 25-22 triumph in set 3. The Pipers came right back with another 25-19 win. The climatic fifth set was tied at 4 when SMU grabbed control with a 5-1 spurt for a 9-5 edge. The Pipers got within three and fought off one match point before dropping by a 15-10 score. (For the night, the Pipers hit .291.)
HU gets back into action Saturday, October 20 with their final home match of the season at Hutton Arena against St. Catherine. Game time is 3:00 p.m.
