Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Rally Falls Short at Macalester

Jack Reddan scored his first goal of the season but Macalester held the Pipers at bay from there for a 3-1 win in a first round MIAC men's soccer playoff game Tuesday. The junior connected on a free kick in the second half for the Pipers, who were in the postseason for the third time in four seasons.

Dean Isaacson had seven saves in goal for HU. The St. Paul, Minn. native finishes his career with 17 shutouts, second most in school history.

The Scots scored early in the first half. The Pipers responded with vigor for the final 20 minutes of the half. In particular, Logan Weller and Lay Wah had the best chances.

Macalester scored on a penalty kick goal in the first minute of the second half and added a third goal in the 59th minute. Reddan, a midfielder, countered that marker when he connected.

In all, HU unleashed a dozen shots at the Scots. Stefan Kinsinger, also playing his last game for HU, was the top tailgunner with three. (Jordan Wik and Trevor Lewellen are the other two seniors on the team.)

Hamline finishes 7-7-1 under head coach Alex Morawiecki. It is the third year in a row they have ended the year at .500 or better.

"Today we ran into a very good Macalester team that showed their class,"  Moraweicki said, " Hats off to them for coming out and executing to a very high standard. Once we got settled, I thought we moved the ball as well as we have all year and created a number of great chances."

"When we look back on the season as a whole, we have so much to be proud of in being ranked regionally in the top 10 for much of the season, getting back into the playoffs for a third time in four years and really elevating the program to another level."

"To our four seniors, what a fantastic ride it has been. Thank you for making our program a consistent winner over the past four years.  Stefan, Trevor, Jordan and Dean we will miss you and your legacy will live on."
