W Hockey Rallies For OT Win at Gustavus

Jordan Hansen's second goal of the game in overtime lifted Hamline to a come-from-behind 3-2 OT win at Gustavus Adolphus Friday night. The second extra session win of the season improved the standing of the country's No. 3 team to 5-0 overall. HU is 3-0 in MIAC play.

For roughly 44 minutes, it looked like the Gusties' night. GAC scored a goal late in the first period and another early in the third for a 2-0 lead. Madison Kolbow ignited the comeback with her third goal of the year on assists by  Hansen and Bre Simon. Nine minutes later, Hansen evened the score with help from Simon and Dani Perry. At the other end of the ice, McKenna Hulslander was holding forth with 24 saves.  A penalty to Simon in the final minutes of play sent the Gusties on the power play well into the overtime. HU killed it and then gained the advantage on a Gustavus penalty at 3:10. On the ensuing faceoff, the puck went to Perry who fired from the point. Simon got her stick on it for her third assist of the night and Hansen sent it into the net and the Pipers had a key victory. Hamline outshot Gustavus, 38-26, for the game, including a 5-0 advantage in the extra period. (Becca Zarembinski led with eight.)

All of which will mean nothing some Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m at TRIA Rink. That is when the Gusties and Pipers will resume what is fast becoming one of Division III's most intense rivalries.
