Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's BB Has Impressive Opening MIAC Act

In theory, it was only one game out of the 20 that make up the MIAC men's basketball schedule. But it was still quite a way to start the season.

The Pipers held Gustavus Adolphus scoreless for nearly seven minutes in the first half en route to building a 15-point intermission bulge and went on to a 79-62 triumph Wednesday night at Hutton Arena. Michael Dillon had a very hot hand, connecting on six of nine three-point tries to lead the four Pipers who scored in double figures. It marked the first time the sophomore forward had ever scored in double figures. Ethan Scheuring was close behind Dillon with 17 points. Connor Knutson kicked in 14 and Lucas Berg came off the bench to contribute 10.

HU also played some solid defense, holding the Gusties to just 33.3 percent from the field. It was a major reason why HU went to the locker room with a 33-18 advantage. What also helped was a steady edge on the boards. HU outrebounded GAC, 38-30 with Scheuring leading the way with eight. Hamline also held a 5-0 edge in steals as Jake Larson led the way with three. The Pipers also controlled the paint to the tune of a solid 38-18 margin.

All in all, it was an impressive opening night of MIAC play.

HU, 3-2 overall, stays at home for Act II as well. Concordia (1-3 overall) comes to Hutton Arena Saturday, Dec. 1 for a 3:00 p.m. matchup.
