Isaac Brooks opened his senior season with a thunderous 25 points and
Connor Knutson added 14 but Crown rallied in the second half to defeat the HU men's basketball team, 91-85, in the season opener for both teams in St. Bonifacius Thursday.
The Pipers shot a solid 51.7 per cent from the field but fell to a Storm team that connected on eight three pointers in the second half.
HU broke from the gate fast, grabbing a 20-9 lead in the first eight minutes of play. Crown rallied but, thanks in part to
Connor Moore's nine points, the Pipers took a 38-34 lead into the locker room.
In the second half, Crown hit three consecutive three pointers to grab the lead. The Pipers didn't fold and
Ethan Scheuring's jumper put HU back ahead briefly at 56-55. The Storm inched back ahead but Brooks, who needs just 17 points for 800 for his career, sparked a rally that tied the game at 72 and later at 77. Crown then scored five unanswered points and the Pipers couldn't catch up the rest of the night.
Scheuring corralled nine rebounds and
Jake Larson added a pair of steals.
