Head coach
Alex Focke could have hardly envisioned a better start for his women's basketball team. The Pipers exploded out of the gate to take a 24-2 first quarter lead and never looked back in an 81-25 decision over Crown Friday at Hutton Arena in the season opener for both teams. 14 different players scored for the Pipers, who hit 11 three pointers and shot 44 percent from the field.
Reilly Geistfeld led the way with 14 points with
Molly Wampler adding 12 and newcomer
Sophie Findell contributing 11. Wampler had three assists while Findell had three assists and four of the Pipers' 22 steals for the game.
Chan'el Anderson-Manning was the top thief for HU with six.
Aly Sartain was the top rebounder with five.
Hamline drained the drama from the game by racing to a 12-0 lead in the first six minutes of the first quarter. After a Crown basket, there was another 1-0 run to end the quarter. HU kept up the attack in the second quarter, going to the locker room at halftime with a 40-5 lead.
In the second half, Focke went to his bench extensively as all 19 players that dressed saw action.
Hamline opens the season with four home games in an eight day span. They swing back onto the Hutton court Wednesday, November 14 against Northwestern. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
