The numbers are simply phenomenal.
Long before the three point shot, Al Frost was putting up big numbers on the court for the Pipers. Frost set MIAC records that still stand 50 years later for points in a season (685) and average per game (29). On Saturday, February 3, he took his place on the school's Row of Honor at the north end of the building.
The Minneapolis native holds two career records : Most Points Per Game (19.8) and Most Free Throws Made (455). He ranks fourth all-time in points (1704) and Field Goals Made (622). And he did all this despite no three point shot and the fact that he played on only 1 team that had a winning season. Frost played for Joe Hutton's last two teams and the first two coached by Howie Schultz.
A member of the school's Hall of Fame, Frost was formally announced to the crowd at halftime of the men's basketball game with Gustavus Adolphus. HU celebrated the occasion with an 85-74 victory.
A multisport athlete, Al was also a member of the 1966 MIAC championship football team coached by Dick Mulkern, who was part of the large crowd at Hutton Arena.
Now he stands with such legends as Hutton and NBAers like Vern Mickelson and Hal Haskins.
Welcome to the club, Al.
