Box Score Hamline bunched three goals into a span of 3:16 early in the second period and that was enough to propel the Pipers past St. Mary's, 4-2, in Winona Friday night. The win kept the Pipers atop the MIAC with a 12-2-1 league mark and improved their overall standing to 17-3-2. Hamline, in search of its first MIAC women's title, has a one point lead over St. Thomas and a two point edge over Gustavus Adolphus with three games remaining in the regular season.
Becca Zarembinski got things going for HU with a goal in the first minute of play. The 1-0 score stayed until 1:29 of the second when
Jordan Hansen finished off a three way play that included
Leah Schwartzman and
Madison Gaffney to make it 2-0.
56 seconds later,
Darby Dodds made it 3-0 and
Bre Simon capped the outburst with her NCAA D-III leading 27th goal of the year at 4:45.
Sarah Bobrowski, who had an assist on the Simon goal, led the Pipers' 32 shot assault with seven. The senior also leads all of D-III hockey with 50 points.
Mckenna Hulslander took it from there. The freshman, who had 10 saves in the first period, finished with 17 overall to earn the win.
The teams have a rematch set for Saturday, February 10 at TRIA Rink. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
