Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Stubbs' Goal Lifts W Soccer To OT Win Over Scots

A heads up play by Jackie Stubbs got the Hamline women's soccer MIAC opener off to a rollicking start. Stubbs headed in a Jensen Sevening corner kick 1:41 into the second overtime to lift the Pipers to a 2-1 decision over Macalester Tuesday at Paterson Field. It marked the second straight season HU had edged their Snelling Ave. rivals by the same score.

The teams were evenly matched all day. Hamline, now 3-2-1 overall, jumped to a quick lead when Siri Parker took a pass from Grace Trocinske and slipped a shot into the net just 93 seconds into the game. The Scots responded quickly with a goal at 4:14. After that, the team traded blows and counter punches for the next 86 minutes. HU goalie Dani Wright was slightly busier than her counterpart, coming up with nine saves -- four in each half and one in the first extra session. Each team had 16 total shot attempts with Jenna Sampson leading the HU offensive thrust with five.

Sampson had the first shot of the second overtime. The ball ended up out of bounds and Sevening took the corner kick to the left of the goal. She angled the ball in front of the goal and Stubbs got between two defenders and redirected it home for the game winner.

After going 26 years without a win against Macalester, Hamline has now won two in a row under head coach Emily Cripe

The Pipers hit the road Saturday, September 15 for a game at Carleton (1:00 p.m.).
