Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Double Trouble Leads VB over Falcons

Megan Rubbelke and Morgen Coleman are two of the three players on the 2018 HU volleyball roster who logged considerable court time a year ago. On Saturday, at River Falls, that experience took center stage as each recorded double-doubles to help the Pipers defeat the host Falcons, 3-0. The win upped the Pipers' overall mark to 6-4, this matching their win total from the year before.

Rubbelke, a sophomore, recorded 26 assists and 17 digs while Coleman, a junior, administered a dozen kills (with a solid .323 kill percentage) and a like number of digs to lead HU to wins in three tight sets -- 25-21, 25-22, 25-22.  It was the first double-double of the year for both of them. The duo had help on the back wall as first year players Gabby Robinson and Sydney Larson contributed 11 digs apiece. In all, HU finished the match with 69 digs to the Falcons' 55.

Earlier in the day, Larson delivered 14 kills and Madison Hurrle added 11 in a 3-1 loss to Wisconsin-Stevens Point. HU dropped the first set by 25-15 but then rebounded for an impressive 25-12 triumph. UWSP came back for 25-16 and 25-22 decisions to earn the verdict. Robinson had 14 digs with Rubbelke contributing 33 assists. The North St. Paul, Minn. native is seventh in the MIAC with an average of 8.24 assists per set.

Hamline, 0-1 in conference play, turns its attention to two league foes next week. They play at St. Olaf (10-1, 1-0 MIAC) on Wednesday, Sept. 19. Two nights later, they play their first match of the year at Hutton Arena, hosting St. Benedict (9-4, 1-0) at 7:00 p.m.
