Box Score It was nearly the comeback of the year. Hamline's volleyball team rallied from a 2-0 set deficit to tie the score but dropped a tight fifth set, 15-13, at Wis-Superior, Friday night and took their first loss of the year.

The Pipers dropped to 4-1 while the host Yellowjackets improved to 4-3.

After a 25-16 setback in the first set, HU battled hard before falling by a 29-27 margin in the second set. Two more tight battles followed with Hamline winning by 26-24 and 25-23. That led to the decisive fifth set, which was close all the way as well.

Madison Hurrle led the balanced offensive attack with 17 kills with Lauren Beechum adding 15 (with a .438 attack percentage) and Gabby Robinson contributing 11. Megan Rubbelke had a terrific double-double with 43 assists and 28 digs. Robinson added 19 on the back wall and Sammie Coffler kicked in 12.

HU gets back on the court for a pair of matches Saturday. The Pipers take on Marian (Wis.) at 11:00 a.m. and then will play an exhibition against Lakehead at 1:00 p.m.
